There are lots of things to customize in Logos 4, but I want to show you the guides and layouts. Here’s where to begin to make your own custom guide:
Below, you can see the new dialogue that appears. Note that we’re currently creating a guide for entering a Bible reference. On the left you see all of the guide sections from which we can select:
We can simply drag and drop those into our guide, and rearrange them however we want. So, for example, I can create a guide that gives me some basic information about a passage, as well as cross references and commentaries:
If I’m more interested in digging into the original language in a passage, I can create a guide with the textual apparatus, related references in Greek grammars, and word-by-word original language information:
If I switch to “Bible word” instead of “Bible reference,” I can create my own Bible Word Study guide. Note the options available on the left hand side:
So here I’ve created a reference guide that gives me just my two favorite sections: commentaries and word by word. Notice that in the top left corner, by clicking on the little “pencil” icon, I have given this a custom name “Comm and WfW”:
Now, when I go to “Guides” on the main L4 page, I see my custom guide listed:
By selecting it and entering a passage, I get my two favorite sections for my passage:
One more note on customization. If I have a favorite set of resources that I like to use together (like my custom guide, my Bible, and cross references), I can save that as a custom layout. You would do this in L3 as well, but it is super simple in L4. In the screenshot, you can see that I clicked on layouts and named the current layout “My Favorite.” From then on, I can select “My Favorite” layout from that dropdown list.
